A. INSTRUCTIONAL GOAL / COURSE DESCRIPTION

This unit of instruction is intended to develop basic skills in preparing effective crime scene photographs. It is designed to instruct the student in the type of photographs necessary, as well as the lighting needed for good crime scene photography. This class does not concern itself with the basic operations of the camera.

B. STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this unit of instruction, the student will be able to:
 1. Explain what photographs are needed to reconstruct a crime scene for court use.
 2. Describe and use various lighting methods.
 3. Take court qualified photographs of the crime scenes and physical evidence.
 4. Identify what filters should be used in photographing with a Forensic Light Source.
 5. Explain the proper procedure for marking the photographs as evidence in court.
 6. Identify the need to use measuring scales in comparison photographs.
 7. Describe the procedures for photographing footwear and tire impression evidence.
 8. State what additional photographs are needed to record the scene.
 9. Recognize that auxiliary lighting techniques may be required in all crime scenes.
10. Demonstrate the ability to thoroughly photograph a crime scene.
